Detox not allowed into Canada for Ottawa Pride

RuPaul's Drag Race star stopped at border because of 'outstanding legal matter'

Despite their best efforts, Ottawa event organizers House of SAS weren’t able to give partygoers what they really wanted.

RuPaul’s Drag Race star Detox was set to perform at the House of SAS’s Cirque Bizarre event on Friday, Aug 23, but was detained at the Ottawa airport upon her arrival.

Organizers posted a video apology from Detox on the Facebook event page and dutifully warned attendees that she wouldn’t be performing. The night did go on, with a Tapette party from Toronto DJ Phil V, featuring Montreal house DJ Sir Jemi and a performance by Toronto drag queen Stephanie Stephens.

From the group’s Facebook page:

Hey everyone, I really regret that it is true Detox was not able to get into the country today. She was in fact deported because of an outstanding legal matter in the states. She arrived last night at 1:00 AM and was deported later the next day. I tried everything in my power to get her in and stayed up all night trying to figure things out but it simply didn’t work. You will see below a video from Detox explaining.”
