Alabama Shakes singer attacked on Twitter

Rock band Alabama Shakes appeared on Saturday Night Live Saturday and delivered soulful renditions of “Hold On” and “Always Alright” off their 2012 debut Boys and Girls.

Lead singer Brittany Howard’s quirky appearance and animated facial expressions drew ire from numerous Twitter users. The Grammy-nominated vocalist is known for her androgynous looks and over-enunciation. This didn’t sit well with many mean-spirited twits who compared Howard’s look to a drag queen. Other tweets bordered on racism.
