Transgender Europe targets forced sterilization laws

Activist group Transgender Europe has released a video targeting 34 European countries in which trans people must undergo divorce, certification of mental illness or forced sterilization before receiving legal recognition. The countries include the UK, Italy, Russia, Iceland and France.

Trans man starts LGBT-friendly school in Atlanta

When a trans man from Seattle moved to Atlanta, Georgia, he was told if he wanted to be out on the job he would have to start his own school. So he did. Unlike other LGBT-friendly schools, Pride School Atlanta focuses on grades K-8, based on his experience of wanting his children to be in a school where it’s okay for their dad to be trans.

Study: PrEP cuts HIV infection by 86 percent

According to two new studies, taking the HIV prevention drug Truvada, or PrEP, reduces high-risk gay men’s HIV transmission risk by 86 percent. The two studies, one by French and one by UK researchers, show the highest protection rates yet for PrEP in real-world trials.

Two Kenyan men arrested in alleged gay porn ring

Two men in Kenya have been arrested and charged with “practicing unnatural offenses” after they were identified from pornographic pictures posted online. One of the men was being beaten by a mob when he was arrested, and after the arrest the two were subjected to anal exams. Police allege the men were involved in a European-led gay porn ring, but one Kenyan human rights official says the story is likely a pretext to arrest them.

Lesbian rabbi works for Israeli-Palestinian peace

Noa Sattath came from a secular family and seemed bound for a job in tech before coming out as gay turned her life around. Now she is a rabbi of the Reform Jewish movement, and fights not only for acceptance of gay people but also understanding between Israelis and Palestinians.

Food Network stars host mass gay wedding

TV chefs Guy Fieri, Art Smith and Duff Goldman held a mass wedding in Miami for 101 gay couples. Smith is gay, while Fieri officiated in honour of his late sister who was a lesbian. Goldman, who hosts the show Ace of Cakes, is known for having tracked down a lesbian couple who were refused service by a bakery so that he could bake them a cake.
