The brains behind Art Attack, an annual auction in support of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, are toasting a record-setting year.
The Nov 18 fundraiser was a fun and fabulous evening that raised much-needed funds to support queer and avant-garde theatre, says artistic director Brendan Healy.
Art lovers opened up their wallets to bid on about 35 live-auction art pieces and dozens of silent-auction pieces, spending about $35,000 by the end of the night, he says.
"It was a very successful evening. We are so pleased,” he says. “The support is really a gift from the community."
This year Art Attack was hosted by renowned cabaret artist Sharron Matthews and featured the work of artists including Russell Brohier, Tony Calzetta, Kevin Charlie, Emelie Chhangur, R Kelly Clipperton, Ashlee Cowan, Shari Hatt, Catherine Heard, Chris Ironside, Jean-Paul Kelly, Kris Knight, Sholem Krishtalka, Bruce LaBruce, Gabrielle de Montmollin, Tanja-Tiziana, Maurice Vellekoop, Syrus Marcus Ware, Kai Wa Yapp, Christina Zeidler and Kent Monkman, whose work fetched the most, Healy says.
