BCPWA calls for Walk for Life pledges

The BC Person’s With AIDS Society’s (BCPWA) 20th annual Walk for Life is set for Sunday, Sep 25 in Stanley Park.

“It’s now more important than ever to support the Walk for Life because there are more people living in BC with HIV/AIDS than ever before,” says BCPWA chair Paul Lewand.

“Over the last 10 years, the number of HIV-positive people the BCPWA supports has grown by 160 percent, while its core funding per person has decreased by 55 percent.” That means HIV/AIDS groups in BC have to rely more heavily on charitable donations.

Lewand won’t know how successful the Walk for Life will be until after all the money is collected, but he urges those who plan to participate, but who haven’t started gathering pledges, to get started early.

“It’s going to be spectacular,” he says.
