Conchita Wurst’s ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ wins Eurovision 2014

Eurovision, the international song competition that’s helped launch the careers of Abba, Celine Dion and . . . um, did I say Abba? I did? Shit. Well, they just announced their latest winner, and the crown has gone to Austria’s Conchita Wurst for her amazing single “Rise Like a Phoenix.”

Austria’s genderbending glamazon, known for her brassy pipes and amazing vocal range, took home the trophy at the 59th annual ceremony. Conchita looked radiant as she accepted her trophy in a golden dress and a full beard, because she’s just that fucking awesome.

According to The Mirror, Conchita used her win to call for unity and acceptance. “This night is dedicated to all who believe in a future of peace and freedom. You know who you are . . . We are unity and we are unstoppable!”
