RuPaul returns to MAC’s Viva Glam

The bitch is back.

Nearly two decades ago, RuPaul became the first spokesmodel for Viva Glam, a lipstick created by makeup company MAC for its AIDS research organization.

Now, the cover girl has returned, along with the burgundy lipstick that started it all, The Original.

“It feels so good to be back at MAC,” says RuPaul in a video interview with Viva Glam. “As the original Viva Glam girl, it feels fantastic . . . [to be] supporting such a fabulous cause and an incredible product.”

The Viva Glam campaign originated in 1994 and sells lipstick and lip-gloss. All proceeds from the sale of Viva Glam products are donated to programs linked to research and education for HIV/AIDS prevention. The MAC AIDS Fund is an industry leader in AIDS research, having raised $270 million to date.

“We’re still fighting this fight. A new generation of people really don’t understand the horrors of this disease, and it’s important for our lovely warriors to keep on fighting,” RuPaul says.

Viva Glam has also worked with artists such as kd lang, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Ricky Martin and Nicki Minaj to promote its lipstick.

“I think all the Viva Glam spokespeople have been flamboyant and colourful and fearless and fierce, which really exemplifies what the product is,” RuPaul says.
