Cardinal Nicolás de Jésus López Rodríguez has told the American ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Wally Brewster, to “take his pride elsewhere,” Pink News reports.

The cardinal, who has reportedly called Brewster a maricon (faggot) in previous comments, more recently took issue with a video featuring the American emissary and his husband, saying that diplomacy is not “for that sort of thing” and that the video is “negative propaganda.”

In the video, Brewster, who is one of six out American gay ambassadors, says he is proud to be celebrating June as Pride month with many other governments and citizens around the world in recognition of equality, diversity and inclusion.
