Evalyn Parry takes quirky tour across country

Songwriter sings about politics, maxi-pads

TOUR DE FORCE. Evalyn Parry will play dates in the Yukon, BC, Alberta and Ontario throughout July. She'll be at Toronto Pride, Jun 29, 5pm on the Proud Voices stage. Credit:

Lesbian songwriter, poet, theatre artist and social commentator Evalyn Parry is taking her unique brand of entertainment on a cross-Canada tour this summer.

While promoting her latest disc Small Theatres — a double CD of songs and spoken word — Parry is raising awareness as well about a number of projects she is working on, including a queer youth program at Toronto’s Buddies in Bad Times theatre, and her Bottle This! campaign, which tries to discourage people from buying bottled water.

Whether Parry is singing about an ex-girlfriend or a maxi-pad, or speaking her mind about political or equality issues, she continues to be a great (and witty) queer performer and community leader.

Parry stopped by Rasputin’s cafe in Ottawa on Jun 14, and caught up with her. Check out the video below:
