If you love The Real L Word and are looking for a wild party to end Pride, then Xquisite is the place to be on Sunday, Aug 28.
Next to the Flamingo Bar on Elgin St, Xquisite is Ottawa’s newest nightclub. And it’s the site of an exclusive new women’s party of the same name.
The kickoff features guest appearances by Whitney and Rose, stars of The Real L Word. It is a white booty party — which means short shorts and white T-shirts — and the dream extravaganza of Miss Angeleyes (her preferred name).
“To be honest, who wouldn’t want to see a girl with a T-shirt all wet — you know what I mean?” she says, laughing.
Miss Angeleyes is a successful club promoter who has turned her attention to the queer scene.
“It’s time to be comfortable in my own skin and give back to my gay community, which is why I am launching the Xquisite series under AEM Entertainment. [Holding] elite parties for the gay community because I know I can provide them,” she says.
The club diva wanted to do something over-the-top fabulous to kickstart her new series. An ardent fan of The L Word (she admits to owning all seven seasons) and The Real L Word, it seemed a natural step to reach out to two celebrity dykes from LA.
“Honestly, how did it happen? I hit Rose up on Twitter. I said I have some business for you, let me know. Within 24 hours the contract was signed, sealed and delivered, ” she says.
It will be a first-time visit to Canada for the two stars, and their presence at Pride, according to Miss Angeleyes, will be an opportunity to “put Ottawa Pride on the map.”
To achieve this she has teamed up with another club icon, Catherine Landry.
Landry is also well known in the Ottawa club scene, as a promoter, an events manager and a club manager. Most recently, she has been whipping up a storm at Flamingo with a Sunday drag night.
Landry says the two plan to throw parties that are “clean, crisp and fresh” and hopes that a celebrity presence at the Xquisite series will add a new dimension to the lesbian party scene.
“Xquisite strives to bring celebrities into your realm so you can really go to a VIP party. There’s security, the doors are locked down, and you get to mingle with the celebrities,” she says.
Word of the party has spread rapidly through the lesbian community — advance tickets are already sold out — with Miss Angeleyes being inundated with emails from women in Halifax, Montreal and Toronto who want to play.
The Xquisite premiere will be held at the same time as Flamingo’s End of Pride party. Miss Angeleyes says that both clubs will probably reach capacity.
“It’s in our best interest to accommodate everybody who travelled and made their way to this event. If they can’t get in, we move the party outside. It’s Pride weekend — no limits,” she says.
DJs Killah and Dusty will provide the music.
“We want people to be able to feel like it’s a party… close and personal, intimate and interactive,” Miss Angeleyes says. “We have some surprises that I can’t let you know about just yet, but let’s just say that it involves a lot of jello shots.”
