Gwyneth Paltrow, January Jones among stars up for Grace Kelly role

Grace Kelly was a real-life fairytale, an American actress who married royalty, becoming Princess of Monaco. Rumours around Hollywood are that a biopic about Kelly’s life is in the works, and the question on everyone’s mind is who will play the coveted role? Gwyneth Paltrow, January Jones, Charlize Theron, Blake Lively, Cate Blanchett and Carey Mulligan are all in the running. Personally, I think Cate’s too old, Blake isn’t pretty enough, and Carey is a bore. I really think January Jones should get this one. If you’ve ever seen her in Mad Men, she possesses the dignified charm and elegance that made Kelly legendary. I could also see Charlize and Gwyneth in the part, but they’re getting a little old, too. I think youth is important when casting, because Grace was only 33 when she died in a car crash in Monaco. Her youngest daughter, Princess Stephanie, was in the car with her, but survived.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the film, tentatively titled Grace of Monaco, will be similar in style to The King’s Speech. The film will be set in 1962 and will cover a six-month period where French President Charles de Gaulle was displeased with Monaco’s position as a tax haven for the wealthy.
