It's going to be a jam-packed 10 days of events when Halifax Pride starts on July 18 and runs until July 28.
Starting with a flag-raising at city hall, events in this year's festival range from parties to performances, theatre to lectures and much, much more. "It's the fourth largest Pride festival in Canada, but it retains its maritime charm" said Kathy Walsh, the chair of Halifax Pride, during Monday's media launch.
Halifax Mayor Mike Savage was also on hand at the media launch, stating, "I don't think there is a point where people in this city are happier than they are during Pride Week." Savage went on to praise the event, pointing out that on a national scale, Halifax "hits above its weight class" with its Pride events. Pride also announced that Halifamous performer Rich Aucoin will be performing on Friday night's OUTdancing event on the Garrison Grounds, along with Saturday's Festival Stage and Community Fair, hosted by Rouge Fatale and featuring performances by Heather Green, Kelly and the Kelly Girls and Big Fish.
