Hot picks for a summer weekend

An urban dweller's dream: art, theatre and music

This weekend may be one of the hottest yet. With temperatures climbing, people can choose between finding a swimming hole or exploring what’s happening in the city.

The weekend is packed with festivals, concerts, workshops and more.

On Saturday, Minto Park will transform into an exhibition space for neighbourhood artists. The Urban Art Show will feature a diverse range of arts and crafts, from political finger puppetsto glass mosaic tiles to gemstone jewellery.

As the sun goes down, the Arts Courts theatre will be the place to be.

Part of the Summer Fling series, Secrets of a Soccer Mom offers a glance at what happens on the sidelines. The timing of the play is apt, with the Women’s World Cup having just come to an end.

If theatre’s not your thing, then rest up and get ready for Sunday.

Montreal’s weekly summer electronic music festival is taking place in Gatineau. Throughout the summer, Piknic Electronik will be featured on Sunday evenings at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The evening features local and national DJs.

Urban Art Show, Minto Park, between Elgin and Gilmour streets. Sat, July 23, 9am.
Secrets of a Soccer Mom. Arts Court Theatre, 2 Daly Ave. Sat, July 23, 8pm. artscourt.ca
Piknic Electronik, Canadian Museum of Civilization. Sun, July 24, 5pm. $10.
