Landmark bathhouse looking for new location in the Village

St Marc's Spa closing its doors Nov 15

Toronto’s longest-running bathhouse, St Marc’s Spa, is scouting for a new location in the gaybourhood.

Although he wouldn’t get specific, owner Kier MacRae says there are a few locations he has his eye on.

“We are not renewing the lease at our place on Yonge St,” he says. “It was time [for a change]. We’ve been here 20 years. It’s a landmark. But we are now looking to relocate, preferably in the Village.”

Established in 1991, St Marc’s Spa, located on the fourth floor of 543 Yonge St, is set to close its doors on Nov 15, he says.

“There’s a lot of wear and tear on the building,” he says. “The elevator needs maintenance. So new-and-improved is better.”

The new location will likely be a similar-sized venue, 14,000 square-feet, and bear the same name.

“When we move we hope to have many of the same staff come work for us,” MacRae says. “Many have been with us for a long time.”

There is no projected reopening date yet, he says.
