LOOKIN’ FOR LOVE IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES

There are a variety of websites out there for homos looking for love, sex and everything in between, but most are geared toward either gay men or lesbians. Below are a selection of sites that cater to the queerest of the queer — bisexuals, trannies and kinky folks, as well as polyamorous and various other nonmonogamous types. All of them offer free memberships, but some also offer paid memberships with lots of bells and whistles.

To arrive at these classifications, the sites weretested by two bisexual, poly, kinky women, one of whom is transgendered. Our lab rats signed up for test profiles, noting which sites allowed them to identify as bisexual, poly, kinky and trans, and the ability to search for people who identified similarly. The more specific the site was and the more flexible the search function was in each category, the more brownie points it got. Sites that equated transsexuals with transvestites or crossdressers lost points. Here are some of the top-scoring sites. Just remember, kids: queer-friendly is not the same as user-friendly!

The roundup wouldn’t be complete if we failed to mention Okcupid.com. Although this free site scored low in most categories, it has three features that arguably make it the best site of all. First and foremost, it has searchable “tags.” You can mark any word in your profile as a tag and it becomes instantly searchable. Even more interesting is the premise of the site; you answer a whole host of questions and rate the importance of other people’s answers. This information is used to determine how good a match you are for other people on the site. After answering a minimum number of questions, you can create your own questions on any topic, making the matching process more user-driven. The site has already attracted a sizeable population of trans, polyamorous and kinky people, and it often shows in the matching questions the site asks. Also worth noting: anyone on the site can design their own quiz. So, are you my perfect love muffin?
