Love Letter to the Past: Halifax Pride march, 1989

In this video, shot on Canada Day, 1989, approximately 85 people walk in the streets of Halifax. It wasn’t a Pride parade — it was a Pride march. There were signs, there were slogans, there were people with paper bags over their heads as they feared for their lives and livelihoods.

This is where Halifax Pride started. Here, in these marches. With these people taking risks, taking responsibility and taking others to task.
