Martha Wainwright’s memories of her mother

Singer chats with Lucas Silveira about her new CD and the Luminato tribute to Kate McGarrigle

Martha Wainwright will perform with her brother Rufus on June 15 at a tribute concert for their mother, Kate McGarrigle, who died in January 2010.

The concert, Love Over and Over: The Songs of Kate McGarrigle, is part of Toronto’s Luminato Festival.

Wainwright will also be releasing a new CD in the fall with material she wrote in the period after the death of her mother and after the birth of her first child.

“It was really intense and it was a really difficult time, so I started writing all these songs based on mortality,” Wainwright says.
