Uganda now has a gay magazine

African LGBT website Kuchu Times has taken the step to print, publishing Uganda’s first gay-friendly magazine. Bombastic Magazine (available online) tells stories of gay Ugandans and debunks common misconceptions about homosexuality. Uganda remains a hostile environment for gay people, where politicians are pushing for even stricter criminalization.

Same-sex marriage begins in Florida

The first same-sex marriages were held in Miami-Dade county Jan 6, after a judge lifted a stay on her earlier ruling. Marriages in the rest of the state will begin at midnight. With Florida on board, only 14 out of 50 US states do not allow same-sex couples to marry.

Gay couple kicked out of Uber cab for kissing

A gay couple in London were asked to leave an Uber car after they kissed, Pink News reports. Uber is a smartphone-based car-sharing service. The company says it has suspended the driver and will not tolerate discrimination.

Queen honours anti-gay politician

Queen Elizabeth has given an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), a high honour, to a Northern Irish politician who once blamed Hurricane Katrina and AIDS on gay people. Maurice Mills, a born-again Christian, was given the award for services to local government. On Twitter, actress Ellen Page summed up her reaction in two words: “Fuck that.”

Stephen Fry to marry Elliott Spencer

Gay actor Stephen Fry is engaged to marry his partner, comedian Elliott Spencer, he has admitted on Twitter. After newspapers leaked the story, Fry tweeted, “Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!” Spencer, 27, is 30 years Fry’s junior.
