Murder of gay teen subject of new documentary

Valentine Road screens at Toronto's Inside Out

Valentine Road will screen at Inside Out.
Fifteen-year-old Lawrence King was murdered in an Oxnard, California, school in 2008. Classmate Brandon McInerney shot King twice, at point-blank range, in the back of the head.

King had been exploring his gender identity, wearing makeup and high-heeled shoes. He had also declared that he had a crush on McInerney.

The murder and ensuing trial are the subjects of director Marta Cunningham’s documentary Valentine Road.

The film will screen at Toronto’s Inside Out Festival on Saturday, May 25.

Below are preview clips from the film and our video interview with Cunningham, who was in Toronto for the film’s Canadian premiere at the Hot Docs festival.
