I don’t get why the WWE doesn’t have a larger gay fanbase regularly tuning in. It’s a show about muscular, well-oiled, partially nude men grappling with each other in between dramatic segments with an undeniably campy undertone. It’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, but with bodybuilders instead of drag queens.
Well, hopefully this will get more gays on board with the WWE: They’ve recently teamed up with Adam Bouska and the NOH8 campaign for a photo series. A very splooshy photo series.
In a statement on NOH8’s website, chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon says, “Our mission at WWE is to put smiles on people’s faces and we do that, in part, by participating in initiatives that help fight bullying of all kinds . . . We are proud to support the LBGT community by taking part in the WWE NOH8 Campaign.”
Considering how earlier this year, Darren Young (also sploosh) came out as the first openly gay active WWE performer, now seems like the perfect time for the WWE to officially get on board with gay rights. Because if you can’t love yourself, how are you gonna love somebody — whoops, wrong show. But they’re so structurally similar!
