Out and undead in Toronto: Oct 29–Nov 4, 2015

Choice spooky events in the city this week

Lovestruck: Halloween

DJs Dang Kids and Nate Nitecall raise the dead with a casketful of pop, hip hip and house tracks. The party includes such Halloween-themed games as truth or scare and bobbing for apple-flavoured condoms, and burlesque performances by Imogen Quest, Zyra Lee and Johnny B Goode.

Friday, Oct 30, 9pm. The Steady, 1051 Bloor St W.

Pop Machine: Scream

On a regular night you might attribute the eerie sounds emanating from this pop music-focused party to DJs Aural and Kris Steeves, but tonight is different. It’s instead probably the result of people being murdered or eaten alive or anally probed (in the scary, aliens-with-heart-shaped-heads kind of way).

Friday, Oct 30, 10pm. WAYLA Bar, 996 Queen St E.

Bad Tuck: A Queerican Horror Story Ho-Tel

Judy Virago and Igby Lizzard — it’s hard to imagine how these scary bitches could be more frightening than they are on a regular day, but somehow they manage it when they host a  Halloween party. This American Horror Story tribute includes music by DJs Aeryn Pfaff and Regina.

Friday, Oct 30, 10pm. The Beaver, 1192 Queen St W.

The Village Halloween Street Party

Closed to traffic between Alexander and Gloucester Streets, and with a lot of scary monsters wandering around, Church Street is a bit like The Walking Dead. Except that skull-stabbing is frowned upon and ProudFM is hosting a costume contest (the grand prize is a trip for two to Florida).

Saturday, Oct 31, 7pm–3am. The Village. For more info, visit Facebook.

Big Gay Halloween

There can be few things more terrifying than finding a mix-tape of music you liked over a decade ago. Perhaps that’s why DJ Casper is spinning “hits from your youth” for Halloween. He is joined by DJ Craig Mann, who will spin much less murder-inspiring music — classic house beats.

Saturday, Oct 31, 9pm. The Beaver, 1192 Queen St W.

Toastr Halloween

With a shriek and a woosh, the Dracu-lesbians swoop down out of the black sky and assume human form as they land at the Halloween edition of this recurring girl party. A few necks are sure to get sucked at this party that includes DJs Ticky Ty and Sticky Cuts spinning house, dancehall and R&B.

Saturday, Oct 31, 9:30pm. WAYLA Bar, 996 Queen St E.

A Nightmare on Church Street

This will be a lively party. Let’s hope so anyway, because those who fall asleep are likely to be killed by DJ John Caffery in their dreams, which, for some reason, also kills them in reality. But don’t worry too much, because the hot tracks are sure to keep you up, dancing and relatively un-murdered.

Saturday, Oct 31, 10pm. The Black Eagle, 457 Church St.

Wet Halloween

You dance the night away, unaware that the doors have been locked, and water is slowly trickling into the venue. As it fills your lungs, and bloodthirsty mermaids gnaw your genitals, your only solace is DJ Recklezz’s beats — beats that sound a little strange filtering through all that water.

Saturday, Oct 31, 10pm.  Microtime Cafe, 25 Wellesley St E. For more info, visit Facebook.

Hotnuts Halloqween

With the fairly eccentric theme of Nightmare on Sesame Street, this party’s billing suggests the following costumes: The Big Turd, Snuffleupagus of the Lambs and The Cookie Lyon Monster. DJs Produzentin and Das Hussy spin, and there’s a musical performance by Poisonous Relationship.

Saturday, Oct 31, 10:30pm. The Garrison, 1197 Dundas St W.

Grindr Halloween

Looking at Grindr is like staring into the black, dead eyes of a cannibalistic serial killer who’s just eaten your family and, by the looks of things, is about the devour you next. This very appropriately themed Halloween party includes music by DJs Mark Falco and Geoff Kelleway, and drag performances.

Saturday, Oct 31, 10:30pm. Fly 2.0, 6 Gloucester St.
