Rainbow Soup Social

Help out for a great cause and meet new friends as you make soup for queer people and their allies. First Aid and Food Safe are assets at this weekly group.

5–7pm. Gordon Neighbourhood House, 1019 Broughton St. Email register@checkhimout.ca to register. checkhimout.ca/ai1ec_event/rainbow-soup-social/?instance_id=21267

Full Feature Friday

When I was a young boy, my dad often took me to the circus, mainly because he only had custody one day a week, and movies and the circus made good babysitters while he hit on women in the crowd. When the contortionists performed, I was fascinated and always felt squirmy in my nether regions. It wasn’t until much later that I realized I was just horny watching them but too young to do anything about it. Tonight may be my chance, as gender contortionist Tommy Ting comes to town. Gingerbear Todd, who is usually already bent like a pretzel at Steamworks, will be spinning.

9pm. The Odyssey, 686 W Hastings St. Cover $5. theodyssey.ca

Wet & Wild

After all the nudity of Pride week, you’re probably, like me, tired of seeing cock. Ha! This is the best place in town to see the hottest shower show with the hunkiest, hottest and hardest men. Plus two of the hottest DJs around, Nick Bertossi and Del Stamp, will bring you the best mixes and make for good eye candy between shows. So put on your Depends because you will be leaking like a fire hose, and have a great time.

9pm–late. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St. $5 cover. facebook.com/thepumpjackpub/events

Okanagan Pride: We Are One

I don’t know about you, but as I write this my liver is threatening to leave me if I go to another Pride this month. It’s kind of a long road trip but Okanagan Pride is worth it. Like Vancouver, there is a plethora of activities including an art exhibit, film festival, trans march, golf tournament, drag king and queen pageant, beach festival, parade and more.

Aug 6–13. Kelowna, BC. Full schedule of events, times and tickets at okanaganpride.com/

VRM Pride Meet & Demos

A double dose of afternoon fun where you can choose to get down like a dog with Van-PAH puppies as they frolic in the main room, or come to the back room and play with the Vancouver Rubbermen as they demonstrate some awesome toys. Things like the vac tower, the straightjacket, and my personal favourite, the sleepsack, where you are totally confined in a rubber sleepsack with your junk hanging out for anyone to fondle and enjoy.

2pm. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St. No cover.

Vancouver Dungeon

Well I guess my Saturday is all taken care of because after a stint in the aforementioned sleepsack, I’ll be heading over to Metro Vancouver Kink’s Dungeon Party. If you want a full day of fun there is Beyond Boot Blacking from 4–5:30pm, Cigar Play from 6-7:30pm, followed by dungeon play at 8pm. Whether you are an experienced player or a newbie, I guarantee you will enjoy yourself.

4pm–1am. Maritime Labour Centre, 1880 Triumph St. Cover $20 for the Dungeon Party, by donation for afternoon sessions. facebook.com/events/1362752487074373/

Boutique Cabaret

Yes, it’s a cabaret show complete with big name musical numbers, Hollywood glamour and the complete showgirl experience but it is well worth the price of admission to see host Katy Hairy. How that man does drag and keeps all that beard, and that huge moustache, in place amazes me. It is probably gel à la There’s Something About Mary, so don’t touch it. Although it is XY so Ryan Steele probably gave a donation or two.

8–11pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. $10 at door. facebook.com/events/736580569816162/

Love is Love

Yes, another Pride is coming up and my liver still says no, but my genitals say yes. New West Pride is great because if you find “Mr Right Now” you don’t have to hide under the parkade, bent over the hood of a car, as there is a bathhouse right around the corner! The city has progressed a lot since I grew up there. Tonight is a dance to kick off Pride Week. Bring your neon and glow sticks and win a prize for best dressed.

8pm–1am. Brooklyn Bar & Grill, 250 Columbia St, New Westminster. Cover TBA.

Sunday, Aug 7

SOProud Patio Party

Finally an outdoor street party where I’ll actually be able to get to the bar to buy a drink — and the best part is there’s no wristband; they actually take cash. Steel & Oak are joining with the Terminal Pub in New West for a Pride Patio Party, where they will present two Pride edition beers for you to enjoy. DJ Cavello Rosso will be spinning, and there will be a Giant Jenga contest, prizes and giveaways, so dress loud and proud.

1–7pm. The Terminal Pub, 115 12th St, New Westminster. No cover. facebook.com/events/151772348563629/

Monday, Aug 8

It’s a Queer Age

Sounds like something my mother would say when whispering about me right up until I was 40. Youth for Change, in conjunction with the New Westminster Arts Council, bring you a one-night-only art show by young queer artists, aged 13–21, with the theme: It’s A Queer Age.

7–9pm. Centennial Lodge, 1st Street at 3rd Avenue, Queen’s Park, New Westminster. Free event.

Stumped

It is the dreaded Monday night and you don’t know where to go for fun, are you Stumped? I am pretty sure that’s how they came up with the name for this general knowledge, picture and movie clip trivia night. Host Richard Romano tests your skills and maybe a bit of your IQ. Enter your team of five, or come alone and they will pair you up with four other lonely singles and maybe a love connection will happen too.

7:30–10:30pm. The Junction Pub, 1138 Davie St. No cover. junctionpub.com/events/12975-2016-08-08/

Tuesday, Aug 9

Pride Family Picnic With Labyrinth

Yes, they are digging up David Bowie for New Westminster Pride. Well, actually, just his movie, Labyrinth, for a family-friendly, alcohol-free event where everyone is welcome. You can even bring your own picnic dinner or snacks to enjoy. As soon as it gets dark the outdoor movie will start, so bring your blanket, your date and get cozy at this New West Pride event.

6–11pm. Westminster Pier Park, 1 Sixth St, New Westminster. Free event.

Impact Play

Where do I sign up to be the demo model for this? I’ve been a bad boy (actually, after this Pride, a really bad boy!). Have you ever had a smack to your ass and knew you wanted more? This workshop and demo will explore the different methods and techniques for spanking your partner in a pleasurable way (or not so pleasurable, if that’s what you like). In this live demo you will get to see various tools used, including hands, paddles, canes and floggers, and learn how to use them.

7:30pm. The Art Of Loving, 369 W Broadway St. Tickets $40 and info at artofloving.ca
