Out in Vancouver: Nov 12–18, 2015

Choice events in the city this week

(Carlotta Gurl and Joan-E, seen here hosting Queens Care VII in 2014, return this Saturday, Nov 14, to host the eighth edition of the biggest drag event of the season, which raises money for Friends For Life and the DMS, while honouring the memories of Diana Rose and DJ Jules./OutlookTV screen capture.)

Shower Power

I’m not sure if guys go to see all the dick in the shower or the action in the DJ booth. The guys here go all the way under the showerhead and the go-go crew goes hard all night long. DJ Del Stamp spins until 3am. If you think you could measure up in the shower, email for info. 9pm, shower shows at 11:30pm and 1am. The Odyssey, 686 W Hastings St. Cover $5 before 11pm, more after.

It’s happened more times than I care to think about: you see the hottest body on earth in an ad, so you connect and plan to hook up, then the door opens and the face reminds you of Dad. Instant boner kill. This is a night to fix all that. A mandatory mask play party for men only. Picture that for a moment: every hot body you can think of, and no facial distraction. Bring your own mask, or they can supply one. An eye mask, a hood, a wrestler’s mask, a bag with eye holes — it’s up to you. The club supplies condoms and lube, too, so all you need is your mask and your dick. 8pm–12am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. $5 before 9pm, $10 after. Clothes check available. 8×

The Gay Agenda: Glitter and Skin Returns

Imagine my surprise the first time I went to this amateur rainbro strip show and walked in as Ryan Steele was flashing his meat. Of course I stayed. You never know who will drop trou for this group. Some will flirt, some will go full Monty, but you will have fun watching. There’s even a makeout corner. What happens there stays there, but you can watch. 9:30pm–2am. The Cobalt, 917 Main St. Cover $9. More info on their Facebook page.

Pacific Canadian Association of Nudists: Naked Heaven

I always love a party where your balls can hang out and liquor is served. If there were fried chicken available then it truly would be heaven. (Trust me: there will be chicken, just not the kind dipped in oil.) Friday the 13th might be your lucky day, with everyone in the buff. I think that must be where the word “buffet” comes from — eat your fill and dance the night away with Terry Harris on the decks. 8pm–2am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. Cover $13 guests, $10 PCAN members (memberships will be available). Free coat check, condoms and lube. 8×

Peter Breeze 30th Birthday Bash

Peter Breeze is actually turning 30 — and celebrating with a fundraiser for the Inside Out Project, where youth ages 13–20 attend an intensive three-week arts program. Enjoy surprise performances, local art, giveaways and, while it lasts, free champagne to celebrate the passing of Peter’s 20s. 8pm. Untitled, 436 Columbia St, Vancouver. $10 donation to Inside Out. More info on his Facebook event page.

Queens Care VIII

I swear Vancouver drag queens are vampires. Not because they will suck you dry at the mention of a cocktail (kidding!), but because this event goes on year after year after year, and none of them seem to age at all. They should be doing Maybelline ads instead of drag shows. This, the biggest annual drag event of the season, brings the finest we have to produce a truly lavish production. Not only does it honour the memory of two late community members, Diana Rose and DJ Jules, it raises funds for Friends For Life and the Dogwood Monarchist Society’s charity fund. Hosted by Carlotta Gurl and Joan-E. 7pm. Celebrities, 1022 Davie St. Tickets $20 at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St or More info here on Facebook.

Wet & Wild

Of the two shower nights in town, this is the grittier of the two and, for some of us, a bit more fun. Many a time while standing in the crowd of hot bears and lumbersexuals, a hand or two, not necessarily attached to the same bear, have somehow found their way to my nether region and kindly offered a massage to go along with the shower show. DJ Quest provides the sounds and many a hot man in the shower will provide the sights. 9pm. Pumpjack Pub. 1167 Davie St. Cover $5.

Sunday, Nov 15

The Drag Show

Time to leave the downtown core and support our people in New Westminster. Miz Adrien and guests put on a hell of a show in a fun atmosphere. (Yes, I have been there and made it back alive!) It’s an evening of glamour and fun, with a bit of naughtiness thrown in, along with door prizes and raffles. Plus, you can order dinner. Plus, just down the street is a bathhouse where you will be fresh meat for a change. Doors 6:30pm, show 7:30pm. The Heritage Grill, 447 Columbia St, New Westminster. Cover $10. More info here on Facebook.

Monday, Nov 16

Condom Packing at Pumpjack

You have used enough of their condoms and lube in the alley out back, now help the Health Initiative for Men (HIM) replenish its supplies before the Christmas rush. Tonight they move their crew of elves to Pumpjack to pack as many condoms and lube into little boxes as they can. They can always use a hand or two, plus you will get a great meal donated from a local eatery. HIM supplies places all over town with free condoms and lube, so do your part. 6–9pm. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St.

Tuesday, Nov 17

Queer Improv Workshop

I know most of you think I must have gone to comedy school because I am so damn hilarious at times, but it all comes naturally, I swear! But for those that are truly funny and want to pursue it, this is a night for you. Every Tuesday, Queer Prov provides a workshop to teach you improv in a safer space. Workshops are open to both new and experienced players, so give it a try. 6:45–8:45pm. Qmunity, 1170 Bute St. Cost $10 per person. More info here on Facebook.

The Ryan And Amy Show

The Dynamic Duo is back for two nights of live sketch comedy and hilarious videos. I promise that Ryan will not be stripping. Amy is a different story, you never know what goes on in that woman’s head. I do know that you will laugh until you pee. You haven’t lived until you have seen Moms Over Miami — those ladies have booty for days. 9pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. Tickets $10 at or $15 at door. Second show is Thursday, Nov 19. More info on their Facebook page.

Wednesday, Nov 18

Argentine Tango

I am intrigued by these classes but as I learned from an earlier dance class I seem to always end up with a partner whose chin rests on my belt buckle. One of the trials of being so tall. Not uncomfortable, but when someone breathes on my crotch, things start to move on their own. But this looks like fun and you will be the hit of the dance floor at any New Year’s Eve party. Every Wednesday learn Close Embrace Tango for gay men. Get close and connected through this passionate style of dance. Bring your best dancing shoes, no black rubber, and comfortable clothing. 7–8:30pm. St Paul’s Anglican, 1130 Jervis St. Entry by donation.

Come Together

This is a monthly inclusive queer and trans open mic event in Mount Pleasant to showcase the creative talents of queer and trans musicians, performers, poets and spoken word artists. 7pm. Heartwood Community Café, 317 E Broadway St. More info on their Facebook page.
