Glen Murray, the gay former mayor of Winnipeg, is acclaimed as the provincial Liberal candidate for Toronto Centre Jan 4. The Liberals are preparing for a by-election, slated for Feb 4, after the resignation of former cabinet minister George Smitherman. The NDP riding association selected Cathy Crowe, a community health nurse, to oppose Murray. The Tories picked lawyer Pamela Taylor, and the Greens will run workplace disability advocate Stefan Premdas.
