Petition launched to make Carmen Carrera first trans Victoria’s Secret model

Ever since her tenure on Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Carmen Carrera has developed a devoted following as a burlesque performer, a model and an advocate for transgender rights. And the fact that she has an amazing body probably doesn’t hurt either.

Carrera has become so popular, in fact, that fans have launched a petition to make her a Victoria’s Secret model. If VS were to follow through on this, Carrera would be its first ever transgender model.

According to the petition, hiring Carrera “would show the entire community that they embrace trans patrons. There are so many prejudices toward the trans community, even within the LGBT community, and many trans individuals are not seen as real people. To see a transgender model walk would show that trans women are to be taken seriously and that Angels are selected because of their character and talent."

I know this is basically just a fan petition, and those don’t exactly have the best track record for working (I’ve signed at least five petitions to get Firefly back on the air. So far? Zilch.) but this would actually be a fantastic business move. Carmen already has a loyal built-in fanbase, and considering how few other Victoria’s Secret models have any name recognition, casting a famous face would be good for them. Also: THE BODY. You cannot stop relying on that body.
