Pick of the week: Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You

Singer's latest album sounds like diary of a 20-something urban homo

I know some people might balk at the selection of a pop princess on a gay hot pick list. Très original, n’est-ce pas?

But her latest album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, feels more like the diary of a 20-something urban homosexual than the look-at-me-kissing-girls beats of the American music machine.

Instead of singing about going to the clubs and doing things that result in cold sores, Allen reminds us that sometimes good men can be bad lovers, that we’ve probably been bitchy to people who didn’t deserve it, and that when life hands you a moron, you can hand back an extra large tub of Fuck You.
