Pride movies!

For most of us, Pride will consist of (protected) sex, (responsible) drinking and bat-shit-crazy blitz everywhere from the Davie Street Dance and Rapture’s infamous circuit parties to the final Queer Bash (sad face). Am I missing any? Yes, a shitz load! For Blitz & Shitz’s Pride picks, grab Xtra’s Ultimate Pride Guide, which is on stands now. Check the next issue of Xtra, coming out July 27, for my extended to-do list.

But when you get blisters on your feet (or, uhm, somewhere else…) and need to take a little break from all the wild party fun, you might want to consider celebrating your Pride with some cinematic glamour.

Here are the top three films to see during Pride:

Wednesday, July 27: Wigstock

Poetry is Dead and Sad Mag present Wigstock, a documentary about New York City’s fiercest drag queens, including Lady Bunny and RuPaul. Best of all, it’s a FREE screening at The Cobalt.

Thursday, July 28: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert

This is an interactive movie-night, with a live drag show and a sing-along! Show up dressed in drag at the Granville 7 Cinemas and you’ll get $3 off the $12 admission. Be sure to stick around for the reception following all the fabulousness.

Friday, July 29 – Wednesday, August 3: Beautiful Darling

I haven’t been so excited to see a movie in a long time! Beautiful Darling is a documentary about one of my idols, the alluring Warhol- superstar Candy Darling. The film makes its Vancouver premier at Pacific Cinémathèque.
