A general meeting of The Vancouver Pride Society (VPS) has been set for Sat Mar 10 at 1 pm at the Central Presbyterian Church at 1155 Thurlow St. Audited financial statements for 2006 are to be presented and elections for directors and officers will be held.
The VPS board agreed to face re-election Jan 22, after a group of former board members discovered necessary paperwork for 2005 and 2006, including financial statements and updated lists of directors, had not been properly filed with the BC Ministry of Finance.
The oversight led some former board members to wonder if they might be held technically responsible for the actions of a society in which they no longer had any involvement.
“We just have too much at stake,” former VPS president Shawn Ewing told Xtra West, Jan 22. “Until our names are removed from the register, we want to have full knowledge of what’s going on.”
“The willingness to face re-election shows a board that is committed to transparency,” said VPS president John Boychuk. “We are open to the community and recognize the fact that we have been challenged to become validated and to ensure that filings and paperwork are satisfactory.”
The meeting is open to everyone.
