PTS creates trans group

Pink Triangle Services (PTS) has formed its first trans discussion group.

Gender Quest, a peer support group, held its first meeting at PTS in November, after the need for more trans-positive programming was raised at the service organization’s annual general meeting last spring.

According to the group’s facilitator, Jessica Freedman, Gender Quest provides an environment of open, non-judgmental communication for people experiencing a transition – affective and/or cognitive – in their gender identity.

Freedman, recently elected chair of Egale Canada’s Trans Issues Committee, says she is hopeful the bi-monthly meetings will provide a safe space for trans people to express and share their opinions and identities, where members can benefit from each other’s strengths and experiences.

The group is open to people over the age of 18, whether uncomfortable and questioning of their gender, confronting the problems of transition, considering surgery, or many years post-op.

Gender Quest meets 79pm the first and third Monday of each month at the PTS office (177 Nepean St, Suite 508).
