A collection of unique gay items found on Etsy

Etsy is a website on which users can buy and sell handmade, vintage or custom products in an online market.  Popular items include craft and costume supplies, but as it turns out, Etsy is also a great place to find unique gay paraphernalia, like the dollhouse replica of The Golden Girls set. Here are our favourite purchases from the site.

Lauren Darby’s erotic kitchenware

Bringing a little spice to your kitchen, OriginalsbyLauren features more than 275 items of erotic quilted kitchen attire sewn by Darby. Dozens of patterns are available, including hot firefighters, shirtless cowboys, sexy Santas and sweaty construction workers. For the lady-lovers, patterns include cowgirls, hula girls and banging biker babes. Each pattern is available for a range of accessories, such as oven mitts, aprons, potholders and coasters. Prices range from $6.50 to $60, depending on the item.

Wethouse’s Blunt T-shirts

Following the controversy at Chick-fil-A, Etsy shirt store Wethouse released a line of shirts with the slogan “Gay As Fuck.” The shirt was designed with the goal of enraging those who oppose marriage equality. This print is available for both men and women in a multitude of colours, in both tees and tank tops. Prices range from $20 to $25.

The Lesbian Last Supper

Etsy-user and graphic designer Bronwyn Lundberg has commissioned her own rendition of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, using the likenesses of influential lesbians in the entertainment industry, including Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes and Rosie O’Donnell. Ellen DeGeneres stars as Jesus, garbed in Björk’s famous swan dress. The print is available for $32, and a mug is $27.

Flaming Idols’ votive candles

“Whether you're a recovering Catholic or a witchy Satanist pagan — or both! — this altar candle will fill your homosexual spiritual needs,” writes Robbie Markle, owner of FlamingIdols, which sells votive candles attributed to “deities” of the gay community. Some of the notable celebrities include Kate Bush, Madonna, Cher, Melissa Etheridge, Dolly Parton, Lance Bass and Ricky Martin.

Paraffin wax candles are $8.75; those made with organic beeswax are $16.40. Each candle burns for approximately 10 hours, and they come in nine different colours.

Kenney Mencher’s gay watercolours

Originally from New York, artist Kenney Mencher now teaches art at Ohlone College in California. His online store features nearly 300 prints on a wide range of topics. Many feature LGBT themes in a variety of art styles, from oils to watercolours. Mencher’s muses include leather-clad bears, bare-bottom twinks, handsome couples and nudes of both men and women.

Twisted rainbow glass dildo

Wait, Etsy sells dildos? You better believe it. In fact, its collection is so vast it took ages to find just the right one to feature. But then we saw Ttamage’s twisted-rainbow glass dildo. This beautifully handcrafted Pyrex toy measures nearly seven inches long and one and a half inches wide.  A rainbow swirl twists in a corkscrew style down the length of the piece to create a beautiful design. It costs $65.65, but hurry, because according to the page, there’s only one left. If you miss out, there's always their rainbow butt-plugs.

Gay Geeks T-shirts

Show off your “gaymer” pride with one of these shirts by Gay Geeks. The store features several prints, including “Gay geeks,” “Sorry girls, I like joysticks” and “Sorry boys, I mash buttons” for the ladies. Shirts range from $21.90 to $26.25.

Bear country doormat

Warn your guests that they’re entering bear country when they step into your house with this doormat from Damn Good Doormats. The mat reads, “Caution, bear in area” and it has a big ol’ grizzly in the middle. The handmade mats are created with a vinyl backing, coir and latex paint. They’re available in three different sizes and can be shipped worldwide. The store also offers mats that feature French bulldogs that can be customized based on the colour and quantity of frenchies in your home!
