RIP – Brendan Burke

I'm sure you'll all heard about Brendan Burke dying in a car accident. Yes, his father was the general manager for the Vancouver Canucks, so he does have a tie to Vancouver and now that we're in the throws of the Olympics here in our city, I think it's important to say something about his passing here on this blog.

My sister Shannon sent me a number of articles of the past few days and commented on how much his story touched her…

And I have to agree. I remember reading his announcement a few months ago and was touched as well. Professional sports needs more men like him to come out of the closet and show that gays can compete and excell AND be out in the highest levels of athletics. My condolences to his family. I have a feeling that even at the young age of 21, his courage will leave a legacy for future gay athletes.
