Shades of glory: the chicest eyewear this spring/summer

Since I moved to Vancouver, there has been nothing. But. Rain. It doesn’t stop. I hear that the summers are bright and beautiful, even if, when looking outside, it seems as though the grey clouds will never go away.

Summer means lots of things: skin, drunken patio haze days, beach sex and sunglasses! So here are this season’s chicest sunglass designs for all you trendy bastards.

Round is (still) in. By far the most popular style of the season, and a favourite of Jude Law and Brad Pitt at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, is the O’Malley by Oliver Peoples.

Forget disco sticks: Scandinavian label Acne by Thierry Lasry believes “sunglasses are the greatest disco accessory.” Acne’s sunglasses feature large, colourful and bold frames with reflective lenses for the queen who wants to stand out.

If you’re looking for something chic, but not quite as bold as Acne, and are sick of walking down the street wearing the same Ray-Bans as every other hipster, try the fifth edition luxury line by Barton Perreira.

My pick for the most innovative shades of the season goes to Givenchy. They say, “Gimme, gimme never gets, but you obviously haven’t met my sugar daddy yet.”

Hope that helps – and here’s to the end of the rain and the suicidal tendencies it induces. Happy summer!
