Missouri overturns gay-marriage ban

A Missouri judge overturned the state’s ban on gay marriage Wednesday, the latest in more than a dozen states to do so. Missouri’s attorney general, who supports marriage equality, appealed the ruling but did not ask for a stay, allowing gay couples to begin marrying immediately. The Missouri ruling came only a day after Kansas struck down its law. Tennessee may be next.

Rose McGowan criticizes gay misogyny, sort of apologizes

After criticizing gay men for being misogynistic, actress Rose McGowan apologized for her wording but said her point stands. McGowan made the comments in a podcast with Brett Easton Ellis while talking about a gay boycott of hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei. She said the boycott was based on “illusionary and tenuous” reports and was a “form of narcissistic self-victimization, gay insanity.” She then criticized gay men for not standing up for women’s rights. In an op-ed at the Advocate, McGowan apologized for making a “dumb generalization” but stood by her main point. “Gay men certainly aren’t more misogynistic than heteros, but I’ve met some who have come damn close. In some ways, it’s more damaging, because it’s coming from men that have faced so much hate,” she writes.

Study: One third of women fantasize about sex with a woman

In unsurprising news, lots and lots of women fantasize about having sex with other women. In a study from the University of Montreal, one third of women had fantasized about sex with a woman, even though only one sixth identified as non-straight. In even more unsurprising news, the same study concluded that lots of people fantasize about kinky sex.

Bakery prepared for legal fight over Bert and Ernie cake (Northern Ireland)

A bakery in Northern Ireland says it will go to court to protect its right to refuse to make gay cakes. The shop would not make a cake printed with a picture of Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie and a message supporting gay marriage. A government equality agency has threatened to take the bakery to court for discrimination, but the bakery’s owner says he will not back down. Northern Ireland is the last remaining part of the UK that has not legalized gay marriage.
