Ryerson media students organize holiday-themed LGBT variety show

The Snow Queen project’s Indiegogo campaign video gives viewers a hint what’s to come in the show.

Open Air productions

Santa Claus isn’t the only one coming to town this holiday season.

Seven drag queens, a band and a fierce voguing crew will warm up Toronto in December with Snow Queen, a live holiday-themed drag and variety show. Students from Ryerson University’s Open Air Productions are hosting the inaugural event at the beautiful Winter Garden Theatre, with proceeds from the night going to the 519 Church Street Community Centre.

RTA School of Media students are producing Snow Queen for their final thesis project, but this community-focused event in support of LGBT arts and culture is more than just a year-end assignment. The show stars talented queens Devine Darlin, Bunni Lapin, Nikki Chin, Jada Hudson, Sapphire Titha-Reign and Carlotta Carlisle; special performances by Toronto pop sensations Reverse and vogue group Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance are sure to get the audience in the holiday spirit.

In addition to the feature performance, there’s a pre-show gala at the theatre at which local artists and businesses will display their goods. Enjoy a cocktail and mingle with friends before settling into your seat in the historic space to watch the show-ho-ho!
