A couple days ago, Darren Young came out as openly gay to TMZ, making him the first active WWE wrestler to do so.
In the wake of his coming out, the WWE has been . . . well, surprisingly supportive considering how hyper-hetero-masculine wrestling is. (Actually, it all veers back around into camp territory after a while, what with all the neon colours and feather boas. The spectrum of human sexuality is fun like that.)
As a show of support, WWE superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin went on his podcast to talk about how he supports same sex marriage and how he can't stand the hypocrisy of any organized religion that claims to speak for God as a justification for homophobia. And if there's one guy you don't want to piss off, it's the guy who earned his living splitting men in half like they were wishbones. That was some terrible phrasing on my part, I apologize.
