Suicide believed to be cause of death in Dolman Ridge Road car fire

Police stop IDing motorists leaving quiet east end cruising park

Ottawa Police are no longer searching cars leaving a popular east end wooded gay cruising spot after a man was found burned to a skeleton in a blazing car Tuesday around noon.

“Earlier on in the process, like any scene where it’s suspicious, we try to identify people leaving the area, just in case it was a homicide investigation. It’s just so we know everyone who was leaving the area at that time,” says media relations officer JP Vincelette.

Police are still investigating the man’s death which happened in a parking lot next to the Dewberry Trail, a one-kilometre hiking trail in the Mer Bleue Conservation Area. Vincelette says foul play has already been ruled out, but arson investigators are still investigating if the man’s death was caused from fire.

Police have not released details on the victim’s identity but the burned out vehicle was leased to a local man.

As for final details, Vincelette says the police won’t be speaking further about this matter. It’s believed to be a suicide.
