Brad Kurtenbach makes the best ice cream in the city. His company, Kensington Market Organic Ice Cream, has been a Kensington Market staple for a few years now. But after last summer he seemed to have all but vanished. I was mortified. Where was I going to get my Cardamom Vanilla fix?
Well, he’s back! Kurtenbach just opened a new shop in Queen West (650 Queen St W; 416-835-7781). He uses organic cream, eggs, sugar, spices and fresh seasonal fruit and his 24 rotating flavours are to die for. They include molasses and fig, vanilla rose, lavender blueberry, chocolate ginger, chai and strawberry black pepper anise.
He’s added organic soft serveto his repertoire (old-school choc-olate, strawberry and vanilla). For the nondairy types, he’s got lovely slushies of limonata and mixed fruit.
It’s enough to lure you away from your computer screen.
