Video: The Dog plays at Vancouver Queer Film Festival

Film is far more than just a bank-heist documentary

Daily Xtra chats with the directors of The Dog, a new documentary about John Wojtowicz, the man behind Dog Day Afternoon.

“Nobody would ever [do] what I did. Nobody would ever rob a bank to cut off a guy’s dick to give him a sex-change operation. That’s why they made a movie about it,” says John Wojtowicz, whose story inspired the 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon, starring Al Pacino.

More than a bank-heist documentary, The Dog is about Wojtowicz’s devotion to his lover in a time when their love went largely unrecognized. Watch Xtra’s interview with the directors, above.
