The Vancouver Pride Society (VPS) will be holding its annual general meeting (AGM) on Sat Oct 22 from 1-4 pm at St John’s United Church in the West End. As well as presenting the financial results for Pride 2005, elections will be held for at least five VPS directors’ positions, including VPS president.
“There are going to be a number of opportunities for placement on the board, particularly for women,” outgoing VPS President Shawn Ewing told Xtra West in August. “I hope women don’t shy away from the Pride board.”
An information session for those who are interested in running for the VPS board will be held Mon Oct 17. Contact Ewing at the email address below for details. If you’re not a VPS member and would still like to vote or stand for election, the VPS says 2006 memberships will be available for sale at the AGM.
Although volunteer numbers and attendance were up for this year’s Pride celebration, the VPS has suffered from a lack of volunteer support over the past couple of years. Ewing encourages anyone who would like to volunteer in any capacity to come out. “Volunteering is my vote,” she says. “It’s my part of saying, ‘this is how I can help to make this good and positive.'”
