Weekend ephemera

BY MATT MILLS – I've wanted Jon Cryer to come out ever since Pretty in Pink. He's just one of those people many of us gay dudes wish were a sister. Sadly, he's chosen a heterosexual lifestyle. Maybe it's only a phase. What a class act.

In the news, former top cop and newly minted MP in charge of old age, Julian Fantino told the Toronto Star how hard life is for him in the House of Commons.

“It seems people in there can decimate your integrity, trample your good name, call you every awful name, accuse you of the most heinous things — and they do it with a straight face,” he told the Star.

Of course, Fantino was police chief in London, Ontario, in the early '90s. One of his biggest public relations initiatives during that time was Project Guardian. It was a campaign to decimate the integrity of scores of innocent gay men. He trampled their good names, called them every awful name and accused them of the most heinous things… all with a straight face.

Hmmm, karma.

And now for a shout-out to the hearing impaired… Every once in a while we hear from an Xtra user who wishes we’d transcribe some of the podcasts and vids on the site so deaf people can enjoy them too. We haven’t figured out a sensible way to do that in every case, but I did come across this today….

I have no idea what he’s saying. But I just know it has to be good. There are zillions of vids of people signing on YouTube. Ain’t it grand?

And from The Guardian, check out How could I have not known my husband was gay? It’s a tale of the perils of repressing your sexuality. Sad, true, real.

Ending on a light note…This is old but I love it. It makes me want to make signs.
