Wilson to step down

Donna Wilson, executive director of The Centre, will step down at the end of June after 11 years on the job, The Centre announced Mar 5.

During her tenure, Wilson initiated the LGTB Generations Project, expanded outreach and educational capacities and grew Vancouver’s queer community centre from virtually no paid staff to a staff of 10 with more than 200 volunteers.

“I have felt really privileged to be in this position as long as I have but it’s time for me to look at new opportunities in my own life and to explore new options, and for The Centre to bring on new leaders,” Wilson told Xtra West Mar 8.

“I’ll be exploring other opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways to community,” she continued. “Whether it’s the LGTB community or otherwise, it’s been part of my work background to want to be a contributor.”

Phase two of a study into the feasibility of building and operating a new building for The Centre is expected to be complete before the end of May.
