WorldPride committee announces gala to honour global LGBT leaders

Event will feature performances by kd lang and Lea DeLaria

As WorldPride gets closer and closer, Pride Toronto is proving to have plenty of tricks up its sleeve. The organization’s most recent announcement is a WorldPride Awards Gala, a fundraiser in support of Camp fYrefly.

The evening will feature performances by Grammy Award–winner kd lang and comedian and jazz vocalist Lea DeLaria. The event will honour global leadership with the presentation of the WorldPride Awards.

I’m proud to be a Canadian because we embrace and celebrate diversity,” lang writes in a press release. I will be celebrating WorldPride 2014 in June and I’m inviting everyone to join the festivities in Toronto. It is an honour to be part of this international festival that brings people together from around the globe. Let our diverse freak flags fly.

Camp fYrefly is a national leadership retreat for LGBT and allied youth aged 14 to 24. Founded in 2004 by André P Grace and Kristopher Wells, the camp is designed to help youth develop the leadership skills and personal resilience they need to become agents of positive change.

The gala will take place June 25 at the Arcadian Court.
