There’s more than one way to get greased and ready for WorldPride in a city that already hosts one of the largest annual Pride festivals in the world. But finding the most appropriate and dance-worthy music that pleases all kinds of queer folk can be a challenge.
Thankfully, Pride Toronto has compiled a robust and diverse selection of tracks via a Songza playlist based on live acts passing through our fair city to perform at WorldPride this June.
The playlist includes modern gay anthem “Show Me Love,” by Robin S; the bubblegum twinky pop of “This Kiss,” by Carly Rae Jepsen; the Sneaker Pimps–infused hip hop of “Enchantress,” by THEEsatisfaction; and the breathless classic “Constant Craving,” by kd lang.
Also performing at WorldPride this year, but not included on the WorldPride playlist, are heavy hitters Melissa Etheridge, Tegan and Sara, and Carole Pope, who will be joined by the indomitable Peaches for Pope’s new song “Lesbians in the Forest.”
“I love that Toronto is hosting WorldPride because I’ve been playing Pride there since the late 1980s, and it’s great to witness the evolution of the LGBTQ community,” Pope says. “Toronto is one of the most sexually enlightened cities in North America. I was so happy that Peaches worked her sexy, kinky magic on my song ‘Lesbians in the Forest.’ I’m excited to have the chance to perform it live with her. We both mock sex and sexuality. It’s a beautiful thing.”
