Brandon McInerney (pictured left) was sentenced to 21 years in prison today for the voluntary manslaughter of his classmate Larry Fobes King (pictured right).
In 2008, Larry asked Brandon to be his Valentine. Brandon rejected him by putting two bullets in his head in the school computer lab, killing him.
The first case was a mistrial because the jury couldn’t agree on sentencing. Brandon’s lawyers made a plea deal to avoid a second trial, which ensures that he will be released from prison by the time he is 38.
Twenty-one years doesn’t seem like long enough for taking someone’s life, but Larry wasn’t the only victim. Brandon is a victim of society, bullying and an abusive home. I can only hope that by the time he is released he has become a man, able to live the full life he deprived Larry of.
